Lovaholic wishes all lovables Happy Rice Dumpling / Dragon Boat Festival!!! 端午节快乐!

The Dragon Boat Festival, also called Double Fifth Festival, is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth moon of the lunar calendar.

The origin of this summer festival centers around a scholarly government official named 屈原 ( Ji Yeun ). He was a good and respected man, but because of the misdeeds of jealous rivals he eventually fell into disfavor in the emperor's court.

Unable to regain the respect of the emperor, in his sorrow 屈原 ( Ji Yeun ) threw himself into the Mi Low river. Because of their admiration for 屈原 ( Ji Yeun ), the local people living adjacent to the Mi Lo River rushed into their boats to search for him while throwing rice (believed to be in the form of dumplings) into the waters to appease the river dragons.

This festival is a day to commemorate the patriotic poet 屈原 ( Ji Yeun ) whom drown himself to show his love to his country & dis-approval of the tyranny Emperor of the Sung Dynasty.

Well, for me, it's simply another feast on my lovely granny's signature rice dumplings (粽子 ZongZi) !!! (^_^) *Yipee!!!*

Kisses and hugs to all the great mothers who "slaves" and give lotsa loves to their children!!! From being preggy to taking care of them till the child can take care of themselves... it has NEVER been a easy task being a mum!!!

For my case, my dearest 妈咪 definitely worries about me ALL THE TIMES!!! As a child, I was kinda weak and got sick easily. As a adult, I am still kinda weak and got sick here and there... I never let her worried about my studies thou as I'm kinda good at times!!! *Wahaha!!! Am not kidding,okay?* My 妈咪 worried when I was flying around as stewardess with fear that my plane will "crash" or got lost while venturing on my own overseas!!! *Chey!!!* But, its very much over now. Currently, I'm "rooting" my legs on Singapore!!! (^_^)

Now, she is bothering about when I'm gonna get married.... *faint* (T_T)

Lovaholic must give a big HUG and KISSES to her 妈咪 for taking care of her....

I brought my 妈咪 to have her feast over at the newly opened Swensen located in Tampines Mall and got her a lovely carnation arrangement with a cute plush!!! I got a similar one for my boyfriend's mother and a more elegant looking 3 stalks of carnation arrangement for my lovely granny!!! (^_^)

But ever since most of my lovables are getting attached and some are even hitch, we have no time for each other.... I believe that this is just part & parcel of life.... I miss making chocolates, small gifts and cards for them... (T_T)

Didn't really celebrate this year as I am seriously sick (till now).... My special someone surprise me with a meaningful card plus *ahem* hugs & kisses no less, trying to make it better for me... Celebrating Chinese New Year 2008!!! (^_^)

Lovaholic celebrated Chinese Lunar New Year 2008 from 7th Feb to 9th Feb!!! *Happily Jumping*


CNY DAY 1

House visiting as usual for most Chinese family!!! For my case, 1st day are mainly for my dad's family cum relatives while 2nd day for my lovely MaMa's relatives and family. (^_^)

I need to give myself a big slap sometimes for not bringing my bag (which consists of camera, my camera handphone and of course a Collection of Red Red Fat Fat Hong Baos aka Red Packets) with me during my dad's family house visits :( I left it in dad's car for goodness' sake!!!! Hence, no picture showing my dad's family and relative *Slapping very hard* (0_o)

I still have some camwhoring pics with my lovely sista taken in dad's car :P That's simply being vainpot but nothing good to be done when being "chauffeured" around :P

WARNING: PICTURES ARE PRETTY RAW AND SOME ARE UNCLEAR!!! Problems being I don't know how to photoshop my pictures and I'm taking most pictures with LG Viewty Mobile hence the poor resolutions and such, even with 5 megapixels!!! * I can really never trust Mobile Cam after SONY event now!!! *URGH Again!!!* (x_x)

CNY DAY 2

Day 2 was also my maternal Grandpa's Birthday!!! He can only remember that he was born on the 2nd day of Lunar New Year and has no idea when is his "english" birthdate according to my MaMa. It's his 72nd Birthday!!! I hope that I can make him Great Grandpa soon since I'm the eldest grandchild he got!!! *Wishful thinking...*

Celebration took place at my MaMa's brother's aka my uncle Sam's house. I love the fact that even though I was born to an average Singaporean's family, my home is always filled with happiness and warm!!! Being simple is beautiful! *Clap Clap* (^_^)

CNY DAY 3

Mainly went around praying with my family! Who doesn't want a good year with bountiful of lucks and health?! Visited the regular Myanmar Temple located at Balestier. Sista's Boyfriend, Christopher and SO were with us the whole day too!!! (n_n)

Ended our day after CJ7. That "Qi-Zai" is soooo cute but it still "died" after its "battery" was used up trying to save the kid's dad!!! Worth the ticket price if you love Kids-targeted movie :)

Lovaholic "Happy Dumpling Festival!!!"

Lovaholic wishes all lovables HAPPY DUMPLING FESTIVAL aka DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL aka DUAN WU JIE!!!!

It is today where we chinese would really bother to commemorate this special day.... BUT... I only care about the dumplings!!! *Wahaha!!!*

A little informations of what's Duan Wu Jie or Dumpling Festival or Dragon Boat Festival (extract from Heritagekids!):

Duan Wu Jie is on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Lunar calendar (usually June in the calendar we use now). It is a day to remember the poet Qu Yuan, who was a loyal official in the court of the Chu Kingdom in old China. Other officials told the emperor lies about Qu Yuan. The weak emperor believed the evil officials and asked Qu Yuan to leave his court. Over the next 20 years, the Chu kingdom got weaker. Qu Yuan was very sad that his beloved country was controlled by another country, the Qin Kingdom. He decided to end his life by jumping into the river. Fishermen who heard that Qu Yuan drowned himself in the river set sail on boats to look for his body. When they could not find it, they threw rice wrapped in bamboo leaves into the river so that the fish in the river would eat the rice instead of his body. The traditions of dragon boat races and eating rice dumplings on Duan Wu Jie thus began. Duan Wu Jie is also known as Dragon Boat Festival or Dumpling Festival.

I only LOVE my once a year rice dumpling feast which were specially made by my dearest Ah Mah (a chinese way to address grandmothers)!!! *Huh?!*

This is "Nonya" and "Vegeterian" fillings!! My breakfast this morning.... *Yummy!!!*


So what's a Rice Dumpling (chinese called it "bak chang")!?

Although, they are just DELICIOUS food to me.... I will take the responsibility to elaborate... These cute little/big pyramids are made of glutinous rice (sticky rice) wrapped in dried bamboo or pandan leaves for the nice fragrance and then stuffed within the rice mouth watering fillings mainly mushroom, chestnut, pork, chicken, salted egg yolk and sometimes hotels/restaurant may have abalone, bird nest and even shark fin!!! I am contented with the norm. (^_^)

My Ah Mah really makes YUMMY rice dumplings!!! All my uncles & aunties and even relatives/friends pre-order from her!!! Ah Mah is really kind and generous as I have never see her charging them at all!!! She gives at least 20 rice dumplings to each!!! She's in her mid 60s now.... quite heart-wrenching to see her doing all the preparations for the rice dumplings.... Mind you, it is really a tedious process especially the wrapping part!!! Imagine wrapping over 200 of it... (~_~) *Sob Sob*

5)Do the Splits
Find a scrap of cloth. Place a dollar on the floor and stay nearby. When the victim comes by and bends down to pick up the dollar, rip the cloth loudly. Most people will reach back to see if they ripped their pants!
